With their large glossy green leaves and winter show of flowers, camellias are a great addition to any garden. Japonica camellias prefer shade or part shade. Many different varieties available in shades of pink, red and white.
Height: About 4m. Older specimens can be taller.
Width: About 3-4m.
Position: Need protection from hot western sun when young, prefer a part sun or dappled shade position such as south or east-facing. Requires slightly acidic soil.
Flowers: Large showy flowers in shades of pink, red and white, depending on variety.
Hardiness: Frost and cold tolerant, shade tolerant.
Care: Feed with a camellia and azalea fertiliser in spring, keep well watered during dry, hot weather.
