Large shrub with glossy dark green leaves which produces flowers in autumn and winter. Many varieties are available, with varying flower colours. Sasanquas will tolerate full sun or shady sites. Can be used as a hedge, espalier, pot plant or trained as a standard. Faster growing than other camellias. Some varieties currently available at the nursery include 'Hiryu', 'Setsugekka', 'Plantation Pink', 'Cherylin', 'Edna Butler', 'Jane Butler', 'Jennifer Susan', 'Bonanza', 'Marge Miller' and 'Sparkling Burgundy'.

Position: Sasanqua camellias will tolerate full sun or part shade.
Flowers: Wide variety available, including pinks, reds and white, with single or double flowers.
Hardiness: Frost hardy, tolerates most soils but prefers a rich, acidic well drained soil. Reasonably drought tolerant once established.
Care: Fertilise with an azalea and camellia food in spring to encourage healthy new growth. Tip prune after flowering for compact growth.
