Living Christmas Trees vs Artificial Trees

Real Christmas Trees vs Artificial Trees

A lot of people are under the impression that an artificial Christmas tree is the more environmentally friendly option, but is this true? When you take into consideration the manufacturing of chemicals (namely PVC)  that goes into the creation of an artificial tree, including the packaging, it is actually much better to purchase a real tree. Studies have found that you need to keep your artificial tree for a minimum of 20 years in order for it to be a more environmentally friendly option. Add to this that most artificial trees are non-recyclable, as opposed to living trees which are biodegradable. Also, artificial trees are mostly made in foreign countries and so by purchasing a real tree, either cut or potted, you are supporting a local grower. And last but not least, there's nothing like the look and scent of a living Christmas tree in your house at Christmas time!

Picea 'Christmas Star', the living Christmas Tree, has now arrived and we've got a range of sizes to suit. This dwarf conifer has been specifically bred for use as a Christmas tree due to its limited height and compact growth. We will also have cut Christmas trees in store in early December. Also now in stock are advanced English Box topiaries which make a great living Christmas Tree, or alternately make a nice addition to any formal garden. There are a lot of different native plants that make great living Christmas trees, including the Norfolk Island Pine, the Daintree Pine, or even lilly pillies such as 'Cherry Surprise'. Call us or come in and see us for further details and pricing. We've also got lots of great giftware and stocking fillers in our shop, or why not give a living present in the form of a fruit tree? The gift that keeps on giving...
