Winter is here

Written on the 27 June 2015

Winter has finally arrived in the Illawarra, although the last few days have been unseasonably warm. Best to enjoy it while we can, and the best way to do that is out in the garden. It's winter veg time in the vegie patch, and this includes carrots, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, spinach, silverbeet, lettuce, celery and asian greens such as bok choy. We've also got a great variety of seed potatoes in, and asparagus and rhubarb crowns are also now in stock. For the beginner culinary gardener, it's a great time of year to establish a herb garden, and we've got a variety in stock. Plenty to keep you in home-grown vegies for a while!

We've also received our winter shipment of deciduous trees and shrubs, including edibles such as almonds, hazelnuts, cherry trees, apples, pears, figs, plums and apricots, to name a few. In terms of ornamental deciduous trees we've got plenty of maples to choose from, as well as flowering plums and cherries, crapapples, magnolias, and many more. And our delivery of roses shouldn't be too far behind. Winter is also the time that Australian natives flower, and there are plenty in store. So come in for some winter cheer while this glorious weather lasts!!

Happy Gardening!
